Nike Air Max 1 "Safari Cobblestone" DV3027-001

A different kind of safari lands on the Nike Air Max 1 in 2022. While we’re still probably trying to recover from the bangers launched during the Air Max Day 2022, Nike’s back for more! This Nike Air Max 1 “Safari Cobblestone” reimagines the classic “Safari” rendition by Nike and Atmos from 2003. An update in materials and a change of colours gave this iteration a whole new identity!

The Nike Air Max 1 Safari x atmos debuted in 2003 and became a massive hit. It retroed in 2016 and was highly sought after by many. Safari print on the mudguard and collar make their way back to this new “Safari Cobblestone” colourway. While it’s not quite the same, the combination itself makes this another must-cop even after Air Max Day!

Nike’s Air Max technology revolutionised the way we see and wear sneakers forever. Instead of the usual setup where the air bag is placed inside the foam midsole, Nike exposed the Air unit and made it visible; resulting in a more comfortable ride as the visible bag provided bounce and cushioning.

The Nike Air Max 1 is the first Air Max sneaker. It featured a visible bag in the heel, housed within a foam midsole. The mudguard and slimmer Swoosh became a signature detail for the shoe and returned in the following models; specifically the iconic Air Max 90.

This Nike Air Max 1 “Safari Cobblestone” uses the same design aesthetic as the OG “Safari”, this time with different hues.

The grey safari print returns on the mudguard and ankle collar. A beige fuzzy suede fabric makes up the vamp area and reinforced with leather right on the midfoot section. An Olive Green suede heel panel adds more neutral tones.

The blue canvas Swoosh works in tandem with the blue Nike Air Max on the tongue. An embroidered yellow mini Swoosh can be seen on the forefoot – highly similar to the Nike x Atmos version.

The Sail White midsole and outsole complete the “wild” makeover.

While Air Max Day 2022 celebration is over, expect this new colourway’s arrival sometime in 2022. We’ll keep you posted for updates about the official launch.
