Nike’s getting their hands full in 2022 with a lot of sneaker milestones throughout the year. We began 2022 celebrating Air Max 1’s 35th anniversary, and now we’re unto the AM97 at the back end of the year. New special-edition colourways such as this one just signify there’s more to come!
The Nike Air Max 97 is one of the most popular Air Max styles of all time. Designed by Christian Tresser, the AM97 was inspired by water ripples and Japanese bullet trains. Although some say the latter was just a coincidental design inspo due to their similarities in aesthetics.
Full-length Air Max made its debut with the Air Max 97. And as a result, brought a lot of cushioning and comfort like no other. 3M reflective materials make up the wavy water ripple panels on the upper, shining brightly under the right condition.
The waffle outsole completes the design of the bottom half of the shoe.
This Nike Air Max 97 “Italy” features a Wheat Gold mesh base with leather overlays. Red Swoosh logos make the shoe similar to the upcoming “Gold Bullet” rendition dropping later on in 2022.
Italy’s national flag comprises the tongue and heel pull tabs. The mix of Green, White, and Red stand out from the rather monochromatic approach of the upper.
Sail White pigments on the foam midsole give the shoe a slight throwback look!
