The Nike Air Max 97 is celebrating 25 years of existence in 2022. And what better way to showcase its long history than a vintage-inspired colourway? This Nike Air Max 97 “Vintage” goes for aged aesthetics so you won’t have to wait 25 years for them to look vintage. Old-school patchwork materials make up for one unique makeover.
While other vintage-inspired sneakers utilise deconstructed designs and pre-distressed aesthetics, this shoe goes for yellowing soles. Yellowish accents on the midsole and outsole are the main highlights of this colourway! But let’s also not ignore the mix of upper fabrics on the mudguard and wavy panels.
The Nike Air Max 97 first came out in 1997 as the first shoe to feature full-length Air Max cushioning. Designed by Christian Tresser, the low-top construction took inspiration from ripples of water; graduating wavy panels mimic the ripple pattern on the sneaker. Mesh makes up the body construction, with leather reinforcements on the mudguard and wavy panels.
As a first for the brand, the visible Air Max technology runs full length for a bouncier and more responsive cushioning. Below, the signature Bill Bowerman waffle outsole gives a consistent grip on every surface.
In 2022, the Nike Air Max 97 turns 25. Colourways such as this one pay subtle homage to the Nike icon.
This Nike Air Max 97 “Vintage” features a Light Bone mesh base with canvas wavy overlays. The mudguard on the sides appears in Light Bone suede, while canvas covers the toe cap.
Hints of Blue adorn the mini Swoosh and tongue, while Reddish-Orange comprises the interior.
A yellowing sole pays homage to old sneakers; the translucent outsole highlights the yellowing aesthetics even more as it looks naturally aged.
Keep an eye out for its release in 2022 as Nike celebrates the model’s 25th anniversary.
