A tribute to the man who made all these possible. Aeronautical engineer Marion Franklin Rudy invented a cushioning system where a gas-filled bag is encased within the sole. His contributions paved the way for Nike and the creation of the patented Nike Air. This Nike Air Max Plus SE “Frank Rudy” pays respects to the creator of Nike Air with special details on the sockliner and lace tips. A nice way for looking back at Nike’s running heritage! The brand sure came a long way from waffle soles to Air soles.
The Air Max Plus or Tuned 1 is the beefed-up version of the Air Max models. Tuned Air Max technology incorporates rubber hemispheres placed on Air units for more support and stability.
It was a whole new era for Air Max in 1998. The Tuned Air technology became the star of Nike’s latest Air Max silhouettes. Designed by Sean McDowell, the Nike Air Max Plus, or Tuned 1 for short, took inspiration from McDowell’s beach trips in the city. The shoe features a breathable mesh upper with wavy TPU fingers inspired by windy palm trees.
Tuned Air Max units on the forefoot and heel provide well-balanced cushioning and responsiveness. A “whale’s tail” midfoot shank further enhances torsional support.
This Nike Air Max Plus SE “Frank Rudy” is a throwback to both Nike Air and Tuned Air origins. The shoe features a clean White mesh base upper with translucent TPU waves on the sides. Hints of Yellow appear on the TN logos, Air Max pillars, and outsole.
The Swoosh appears in scribble form as a nod to Nike blueprints. Frank Rudy’s signature appears on one of the Blue sockliners, as well as his name on the lace tips. An “Est. 1998” label appears on the heel bubble as a nod to the Air Max Plus’ first release.
