The Nike Challenger is a classic sneaker that helped pioneer the brand’s meteoric rise to the top, favourites have often been re-released in true OG form. It’s a testament to how far Nike has come in the sneaker industry. Still going strong in 2021, check out the Nike Challenger OG in a near 1-to-1 remake of the original. Over the years it has transitioned to Nike’s lifestyle footwear catalogue.

The Nike Challenger was first introduced in 1979 as the successor to the brand’s pioneering runners, such as the Tailwind and Daybreak silhouettes. It was a revolutionary trainer that solved some of the biggest issues troubling athletes at that time, mainly sloppy fit and heavy construction. Focusing on the fit, the Nike Challenger boasted an innovative zigzag pattern, various width options and an improved lacing system.

Unlike previous running models from Nike, the Challenger also has multiple panels and overlays to ensure durability. This also increases their ability to withstand inevitable damage caused by hours of running. High wear zones are built out of a mix of strong materials meaning you can go the extra mile in this shoe. The body is made up of mesh while suede overlays adorn the toe, eyestay, and heel counter. Nylon is strategically placed on the midfoot area to compliment the leather Swooshes.

A thick foam midsole provides fabulous cushioning wherever you go and the silhouette is finished off with a rubber waffle traction pattern on the outsole.

This 2020 return of the Nike Challenger OG features a snazzy makeover of Light Bone, White, and Black. Suede overlays are finished in Light Bone, while the Swoosh and the heel panel appear in Black. Old-school Nike logos grace the heel and tongue for a distinctive look.

Released in 2020, the Nike Challenger OG is still available on the Nike website. It’s definitely a model that you don’t want to miss out on.
