The iconic Cortez returns to the catalogue with all-new colourways this 2023! People usually recognise the Forrest Gumps and the White Black colourways almost always, so it’s nice to see new styles. The Nike Cortez “Aloe Vera” flaunts a “soothing” vibe with nature-inspired tones on the aged upper. This is Nike’s origin story entering the modern era of sneaker trends! A must-cop for fans of simple classic kicks.
Nike Cortez appears sporadically unlike other more popular models like the Dunk, AF1, and Blazer. Most of the time, Nike just brings back classic colour schemes like the OG White Red Blue, or the Forrest Gump. Luckily in 2023, we have more brand-new Cortez styles, and they’re debuting this February.
Nike has a long history when it comes to running shoes. The brand’s co-founders were actually running athletes during their days at Oregon University. Before Nike was a thing, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman teamed up with Onitsuka Tiger from Japan. In order to create an innovative running shoe, Bill Bowerman designed what was eventually called the Cortez.
The Nike Cortez features a leather upper with Nike Swooshes on the sides. A raised heel panel aimed to hug the foot and protect the Achilles. While intended for competitive running, the Nike Cortez now belongs in the brand’s lifestyle selections.
This Nike Cortez “Aloe Vera” features a Sail White leather base with suede overlays on the toe and lower heel. Aloe Vera Green pigments adorn the Swoosh and heel panels.
A gum rubber outsole completes the vintage-inspired colourway.
