You can never go wrong with a pair of black and yellow! The Nike Dunk Low “Championship Goldenrod” revives one of the most iconic colour schemes when the Nike Dunk first came out in 1985. This colourway in particular matches the same colour blocking as the Nike Dunk “Iowa”; which originated from the “Be True To Your School” campaign.
Aside from the Nike Dunk “Iowa” inspiration, the colourway also reminds us of the extremely rare Nike Dunk High Wu-Tang. To continue the barrage of Nike Dunk Low releases in 2021, the new “Championship Goldenrod” is central to nostalgic vibes. Mostly because of its easily recognisable two-tone hits that we’ve grown to love with most Nike Dunks.
Launched in 1985, the same year as the Jordan 1, the Nike Dunk built a name of its own. With collegiate hoops teams in mind, the “Be True To Your School” campaign brought out Nike Dunks in two-tone colours featuring their school colours. Most of these teams remain as Nike-sponsored schools where they continue to get Player Exclusive colourways.
The shoe features a leather upper base, nylon tongue, and a rubber sole. The Nike Dunk, just like some of the other hoops icons, transitioned beyond basketball and into skateboarding; where skaters favour the shoe because of its style. Skaters eventually got their own model with the Nike SB Dunk in 2002 and utilised a thicker tongue plus a Zoom Air unit in the heel.
These past few years, the Nike Dunk brought back its former glory. This time as a lifestyle everyday shoe.
The Nike Dunk Low “Championship Goldenrod” combines a seemingly perfect Black leather base with Golden Yellow overlays. A white rubber midsole adds the right balance of pigments to match the OG colour scheme.
After months of delay, a confirmed release in December 2021 on the Nike website and select retailers is expected.
