The adidas Megaride takes a wild left turn with Avavav’s latest concept, reworked into something that feels more sculpture than sneaker. Dubbed the “Moonrubber,” this bold take on the Megaride silhouette features an oversized bubble-like sole attachment that pushes it far from traditional tech runner territory. While the original mesh upper remains, the exaggerated lower unit flips the mood entirely, giving it an offbeat, surreal energy that doesn’t hold back.
That translucent sole isn’t just for show. Peek beneath the bulbous TPU layer and you’ll still spot adidas’ hexagonal Bounce units doing their thing—adding structure and cushioning inside the madness. Whether or not the giant bubbles are removable remains unclear, but either way, it makes a strong case for Avavav’s commitment to playful, boundary-stretching footwear design.
Up top, the shoe keeps some recognisable elements. Mesh provides breathability, while glossy TPU 3-Stripes sit over the midfoot. D-ring lace loops add a utilitarian touch, and “bubble” tongue branding drives home the concept. It’s part fashion experiment, part performance archive—and all conversation piece. The “Utility Black” colourway gives the whole thing a sleek finish, letting the shape speak loudest. It’s strange, it’s bold—and that’s exactly the point.
