Nike’s first track shoe returned in 2022 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. While the iconic Nike Cortez is usually associated with the popular Forrest Gump colourway, there are some underrated styles out there. This WMNS Nike Cortez PRM “Black” brings multiple upper materials to the blacked-out shoe with additional speckled details on the sole. If you dive deep into Nike’s classic models, you’ll always stumble upon the iconic Nike Cortez. This track and field shoe has a long history dating back to the late 60s. Before Nike launched, Blue Ribbon Sports co-founders Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman worked for Onitsuka Tiger. The Japanese sports brand revolutionised running shoe designs during the era, and Phil Knight wanted to learn their ways. Legendary track coach Bill Bowerman was credited as the designer of the Nike Cortez. He wanted a lightweight shoe that has solid traction and a durable upper, and thus the Cortez was born.

Nike officially launched the Cortez in 1972, nearly four years after its first appearance in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

The 50th anniversary of the Cortez in 2022 brought various collaborations with brands like Union LA and sacai. In 2023. Hong Kong streetwear label CLOT transformed the Cortez into a kung fu shoe with three CLOTEZ renditions.

The WMNS Nike Cortez PRM “Black” arrives in a triple black makeover with a leather upper and fuzzy suede overlays. These fuzzy suede fabrics cover the toe, eyestay, Swoosh, and heel. The black rubber sole comes with white speckles to add details to this dark makeover.
