Earlier this season, reports started popping up suggesting that the Air Jordan 1 High 85 “Bred” will be returning just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Jordan Brand. This colourway is iconic in that, not only was it one of Michael Jordan’s first Air Jordans ever, it was actually banned by the NBA when it first released, as rules at the time required every single basketball shoe to be at least 51% white.
Since then, the “Bred” (or the “Banned”) has become a symbol of rebellion. And not only is it one helluva hardwood silhouette, it’s also a huge fashion statement too. However, according to the latest rumours, 2025’s version will apparently be extremely limited, and even if you do manage to cop them, they’re going to set you back a pretty penny.
Just like the OG pair, the trainers feature a premium all-leather construction that’s soft and buttery to the touch. Working on top of a classic “Black” base, they’re overlaid by panels and panels of “Varsity Red” throughout. The legendary Nike Swoosh glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls, while the signature winged basketball emblem is stamped across the collar, just like the original from back in the day. All of this then rests on top of a bouncy Air midsole, making these the perfect sneaker both both on-court and off-court use.
The Air Jordan 1 High 85 “Bred” is set to return on February 2025, and it’ll apparently cost $250 which converts to around £200. While this is a significant price hike, that won’t stop sneaker collectors both old and new from trying to get ’em.
