The Doublet x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 is Inspired by Something Unexpected

This year, ASICS is once again pushing its creative boundaries with the Doublet x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20. Made in collaboration with the Masayuki Ino-helmed label, the Japanese brand’s first take on the running silhouette drawings inspiration from a very unexpected source: the humble cardboard box.

Painted in a neutral beige and brown colour combination, this ASICS trainer is crafted from materials that have been specifically selected to mimic the texture and appearance of cardboard. The standout feature is the use of Tyvek, a durable fabric that resembles cardboard and changes over time, adding a layer of depth to the design.

As it ages, it mimics the natural wear and tear of packaging, aligning with Doublet’s unconventional approach to fashion. Sticker-like graphics can be found throughout the upper as a homage to the labels that you might find on a box, and all of this rests on top of a chunky geometric midsole that’s infused with the sportswear company’s legendary GEL tech.

The Doublet x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 is set to stand out as one of the most inventive collaborations of the entire year, appealing to both sneaker enthusiasts and fans of avant-garde style. Expected to release within the coming weeks, let us know if you’ll be going for these, and be sure to keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to secure your size!
