Since it was first introduced back in the early ’80s, the Air Force 1 has always been a basketball sneaker. But for the upcoming Nike Air Force 1 “1972,” it references one of Nike‘s first running shoes ever: the Cortez. Celebrating one of the most iconic trainers in history, if you never got a chance to cop the OG back in the day, this is the ultimate alternative.
If the colour palette of this AF1 is giving you a little déjà vu, that’s probably because it has been lifted straight off of the original Cortez. Boasting a “White” leather construction, it’s very subtly contrasted by light grey overlays across the lacing system and toe area. Along the lateral and medial sidewalls, the Swoosh is decked out in a fiery red mesh, and around the back, the branded badge comes in a classic “Royal Blue,” just like the original pair from ’72.
Additional reminders of this fateful year feature on the heel and insole, and all of this sits on top of an extremely comfortable Air midsole. It’s then lined with the legendary star-spangled rubber outsole, finalising the design.
The Nike Air Force 1 “1972” is a staple in every sneakerhead’s collection. Expected to release sometime this spring via Nike and select retailers, make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps to increase your chances of securing your size.
