The Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly “Donkey Kong” Was Made for OG Gamers

Attention all gamers! Following the release of the “Adventure” last week, which was inspired by the legendary Tomb Raider series, we’re now getting up close with the Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly “Donkey Kong.” A tribute to Donkey Kong Country, the iconic 16-bit video game that dropped on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1994, if you’re a fan of this franchise, this sneaker was made for you.

Working on top of a creamy mesh base, this Air Max 1 is overlaid by panels and panels of hairy brown suede, mimicking Donkey Kong’s fur. Fiery “University Red” accents can also be found throughout as a nod to his signature tie, and all of this rests on top of a bright yellow Nike Air midsole that mirror’s the platformer’s famous logo.

Of course, you can’t talk about this trainer without mentioning the fact that these all have straight, angular edges, reinforcing its low-resolution, gaming-inspired theme. Inside, the details get even better. The insoles feature golden “DS” coins, a clever nod to .SWOOSH and the collectible DK Coins from Donkey Kong Country. A low poly banana icon makes an appearance, further tying the sneaker back to its arcade roots. All of this then comes packed in a special edition shoebox that’s almost as collectible as the shoes themselves.
