The Nike Air Max 1 Poly “Adventure” is a Love Letter to Tomb Raider

After paying homage to Donkey Kong last week, Nike‘s now nodding to another beloved video game franchise with the upcoming Nike Air Max 1 Poly “Adventure.” Inspired by Tomb Raider, it borrows elements from Lara Croft’s legendary look from the 1996 classic. If you want to level up your sneaker game this season, this is a colourway that you definitely don’t want to miss.

Working on top of a crisp “White” mesh base, this Air Max 1 is overlaid by “Neutral Grey” suede throughout. “Cannon Green” accents hit the Swoosh and mudguard, which are clearly a nod to the heroine’s signature vest top. What’s interesting is that every single panel features a series of sharp lines and edges, borrowing a leaf from old school game graphics from back in the day.

Underfoot, the trainer rests on top of an Air midsole, and it’s finished off with a grippy gum rubber outsole that’s influenced by Croft’s rugged boots. The “Adventure” is then finished off with a fun Easter egg on the insole – “Forward, Black, Left 3 Times, Backwards Jump” – a direct reference to one of the original cheat codes from Tomb Raider’s ’96 release. It’s a subtle but clever nod to the series’ roots.

Starting February 24, Nike will launch an interactive challenge via its .SWOOSH platform. You’ll need to complete three puzzles that test your gaming abilities.
