The Nike Air Max 95 Zip is making its return, two decades after first shaking up Sergio Lozano’s iconic design. Originally released in 2001 as the “Air Max 95 Z,” the model stands out with the bold addition of a shrouded, zippered upper that concealed the laces and tongue, very much like the Air Max SNDR. It was a love-or-hate twist, but one that now has its own place in Air Max history.

For 2025, Nike revisits the silhouette with new colourways and updated textures. The return features three options. Black, Loyal Blue, and Phantom all finished with shaggy suede overlays across the lower panels. Unlike the leather-heavy originals. The protective zip-up shroud remains true to the OG, bringing back the same defining feature that sets this model apart from the standard Air Max 95.

Each pair includes “big bubble” Air units introduced during the Air Max 95’s 30th anniversary, bringing back the look and feel of the OG cushioning. The layered gradient effect is still present beneath the zip panel, echoing the two-tone blends from the 2001 release.
The Nike Air Max 95 Zip continues the brand’s ongoing revival of Y2K-era icons and in it’s 30th anniversary year, with the hype running strong, the timing couldn’t be better for this shoe. Dropping in Winter 2025, are these a retro gem or a hard pass?
