The Nike Cortez “Black Suede” Upgrades a ’70s Sneaker Icon

Without a shadow of a doubt, the Cortez will always be one of the most legendary sneakers in the history of humankind. Designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman back in 1972, it was introduced during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, and became an instant hit among the running community. Fast forward over five decades, and the old school silhouette is still as hyped as ever, thanks to colourways like the upcoming Nike Cortez “Black Suede.”

While the classic Cortez is usually crafted from leather, the “Black Suede” is completely submerged in short-haired suede that looks and feels incredibly luxurious. Enveloped in a stark black hue, it’s contrasted by an off-white Swoosh that shoots across the lateral and medial sidewalls. This crisp tone extends towards the heel badge and nylon tongue, where you’ll also find the classic Nike logo – just like the original pairs from back in the day.

Underfoot, the midsole is dipped in a shade of beige to keep inline with the vintage vibe, and it’s rounded off with a toothy rubber outsole that offers additional grip and traction, finalising the truly legendary design.

The Nike Cortez “Black Suede” is living and breathing proof that some things just get better with age. While a release date has yet to be officially confirmed, expect it to drop within the coming weeks!
