Back in October 1994, Forrest Gump finally hit the silver screen. While nobody knew it at the time, the comedy-drama would gain a cult following over the years that followed, and would become one of the most iconic pieces of cinema ever made. Not only did the Tom Hanks movie win a total of six Oscars, it also introduced the world to quotes like “life is like a box of chocolates” and sneakers like the Nike Cortez “Forrest Gump.” And now, this shoe is getting a highly-anticipated re-release.
While this Cortez has re-released a handful of times in the past, this will apparently be a one-to-one remake of the OG just in time to celebrate the Robert Zemeckis flick’s 30th anniversary. Featuring a premium all-leather construction, it’s painted predominantly in “White” and is contrasted by a fiery “Varsity Red” Swoosh that glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls.
Additional Nike branding can be found on the tongue and heel, and all of this sits on top of a rubber midsole that has been subtly ridged for additional grip. This unit is then decorated with a single “Varsity Blue” stripe, harkening back to the American sportswear company’s original colour palette from the ’70s.
The Nike Cortez “Forrest Gump” is a must-cop for both trainer fans and cinephiles alike. Expected to re-release sometime in Summer 2024, make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to cop.
