Back in 1999, Nike took the wraps off of the Nike Dunk Low “Ultraman.” Inspired by the legendary comic book superhero, it was made exclusively for the Japanese market and was never released anywhere else. However, with its 25th birthday coming up around the corner, it looks like it’s finally getting the worldwide drop that we’ve all been waiting for.
If you’re not familiar with Ultraman, it’s basically a science fiction franchise that was created by Eiji Tsuburaya back in 1966. Spanning a vast array of different media including movies and TV shows and video games, Ultraman is usually depicted as a giant alien that’s painted in a unique red and grey colour combo – a palette that has been mirrored perfectly on this Dunk Low.
Boasting a full leather construction, these trainers work on top of a “Varsity Red” foundation and are overlaid by panels and panels of light grey throughout. A slick Swoosh glides across the laterals and medials, and additional branding is stitched on the tongue tag and heel badge, just like the original CO.JP release from back in the day.
Underfoot, the shoe rests on top of an all-white midsole that’s as comfortable as it gets. It’s then lined with a complementary rubber outsole that offers the perfect amount of grip – whether you’re shooting hoops on the hardcourt or fearlessly battling kaiju in Tokyo’s Shibuya district.
Made for fans of Japanese pop culture and sneakerheads alike, the Nike Dunk Low “Ultraman” is expected to return on May 3rd. Make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps to increase your chances of securing your size.
