And while The Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low has only just been revealed, it’s definitely up their among the strangest. Dropping almost a decade after the legendary “Dorothy” colourway, this is releasing just in time to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the cult classic film.
If you’ve never watched the Victor Fleming-directed movie before then you might be slightly confused by the inspiration behind this trainer. Essentially, it’s a homage to the iconic poppy field scene, where Dorothy, Toto, and the Cowardly Lion fall asleep. The shoe features a floral textile upper that mirrors the field itself, with the design extending onto the midsole, creating a seamless look that’s both whimsical and intricate. The lightweight, wrinkled fabric also adds a vintage feel, reminiscent of the film’s era.
Fiery red accents, a tribute to Dorothy’s ruby slippers, highlight the leather Nike Swoosh, satin sockliner, and the rubber outsole The sneaker is then finished off with the famous quote “No Place Like Home” that’s finely embroidered around the heel. Rumour has it that the upper actually wears away over time, which is very cool.
The Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low brings the magic of the beloved film to life with thoughtful details and a striking design, making it a collector’s piece for both sneakerheads and cinephiles.
