Created by Japanese artist and designer Yuko Shimizu, Hello Kitty has long been one of the most famous cartoon characters in history. While many see the cute cat as a contemporary icon, she actually made her first appearance five decades ago. So to celebrate her 50th anniversary, adidas has taken the wraps off of the Hello Kitty x adidas Gazelle Indoor, and it’s a must-own for both sneakerheads and Sanrio fans alike.
From a distance, this Gazelle Indoor looks just like another classic colourway. Featuring a crisp “Cloud White” leather base, it’s overlaid by light grey suede across the front and is contrasted by red Three Stripe branding along the lateral and medial sidewalls. It’s only when you take a step closer do you realise that it’s actually a very special collaboration.
The upper, for example, is stamped with Hello Kitty’s signature bow. And a portrait of the feline herself is etched around the heel. Another bow is stitched on the back, and the tongue and insoles are both decorated with 50th anniversary graphics. All of this then comes packed in a limited edition shoebox that was made exclusively for this drop.
