Gazelle

One of the unforgettable classics in the adidas Originals roster. The adidas Gazelle took on a new form but still remained iconic. This former performance running shoe became a legendary casual shoe thanks to its streamlined design. The suede makeover with gold-foiled Gazelle labels levels up your overall fits!

Adidas truly knows how to turn a classic shoe into an icon. The brand formally introduced the Gazelle in 1966 as a running shoe, rumoured to honour 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist Wilma Rudolph. However, Rudolph already retired in 1962, four years before the Gazelle debuted. A lot of fans speculate the shoe pays a nod to her as she used to be called “Black Gazelle”.

The full suede construction became the main selling point of this shoe. Compared to leather, the suede fabric is lighter while sustaining durability. This gave athletes an advantage – especially in sports that focus on a lot of running.

The original adidas Gazelle featured the gold-foiled branding in a horizontal form. Modern Gazelle models we have today incorporate a diagonal “Gazelle” label in gold to complement the three stripes.

While not suitable for running anymore, the adidas Gazelle sure is a great sneaker for casual and lifestyle purposes. The shoe has been around for over 50 years now and looks to remain a premier adidas Originals shoe.

Multiple colourways and collabs arrive every now and then, but adidas continues to re-roll iconic colourways. The Black and Midnight Navy colourways prove to be the most popular – often selling out no matter the season.

The adidas Gazelle is, without a doubt, a legend of its own. While most pairs have little to no hype, many fans of the shoe celebrate the silhouette’s longevity and consistent quality.
