Air Jordan 13

Quick and cunning just like Mike! Tinker Hatfield wanted to create a shoe based on a creature that perfectly depicts MJ. He decided to design the Air Jordan 13 inspired by the panther. With Jordan’s style of play, the shoe was the perfect fit thanks to the paw-like construction of the soles.

With Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls seeking to complete their second three-peat and sixth overall championship, all eyes were also on MJ’s feet.

During the design process, Tinker Hatfield discussed his initial sketch with MJ; the former created a design based on the black panther. Luckily for Tinker, Jordan then revealed that his close friends actually call him “Black Cat” due to his aggressive and explosive playstyle.

The result? A premium basketball shoe with soles designed like the feline’s paws. The Air Jordan 13 features a mesh and leather upper with quilt-like patterns. Mimicking the panther’s eyes, the hologram on the rear flaunts the Jumpman logo and MJ’s “23” jersey number.

The Phylon midsole follows the shape of a cat’s paw. Inside the midsole are two Zoom Air units, placed in the heel and forefoot. This provides a bouncy feeling which makes this 90s shoe still suitable for basketball today.

The outsole features multiple traction pods with herringbone traction patterns for that reliable grip.

Most of the OG Air Jordan 13 colourways released in the past decade or so. A lot of sneakerheads who purchase this shoe even wear them to play basketball in!

Just like the Air Jordan 12, the majority of Air Jordan fans consider the J13 one of the most playable pairs.
