2020’s surprise newcomer from New Balance totally took the world by storm with its refreshing aesthetic that only New Balance could pull off. The New Balance 327 captured the attention of the sneaker world when it first launched in 2020. A collaboration with Parisian luxury brand Casablanca introduced the new lifestyle model; but even beyond the collabs, the 327 became an instant hit to the masses.

A combination of about three vintage New Balance running models, the 327 continued to prove why the Boston-based athletics brand didn’t need any hype prior to the shoe’s release. No media hype, no controversies, no absurd gimmicks. Just plain old “unveil it to the market and sell them” kind of promotion.

The New Balance 327 took inspiration from the NB 320, 355, and the New Balance SuperComp – all of which were premier performance runners from the 70s.

New Balance seems to have mastered the art of designing low-top sneakers. What the NB 327 lacked in terms of tech, it made up for when it comes to looks and overall style.

The large “N” signature logo on the lateral sides stole the show as it gave the shoe an identity. Mesh and nylon make up the base of the shoe, while suede overlays reinforce high-wear areas.

A thick EVA midsole provides decent cushioning, enough to keep you comfortable all day. Despite the lack of popular tech such as ENCAP and ABZORB, this 327 model held its own.

Lugged outsole composed of circular nubs paid homage to the similar traction pattern found on the 355 running model. It extends on the heel and acts as an external heel counter, it was a notable feature on the three main models that inspired the 327. It also adds stability as the thick midsole makes the shoe sit high.

Ever since the 2020 debut, the 327 became subject to more collaborations with Casablanca, as well as other popular brands. Partnerships with brands like Levi’s, Jolly Rancher, PSNY, STAUD, size?, and many more, showcased unique graphic prints and popping pigments on the modern icon that is the New Balance 327.

New Balance sure did hit a jackpot with this one.
