Boost 700

The adidas Yeezy Boost 700 made its debut in 2017, during the Yeezy Season 5 showcase. Kanye and adidas didn’t waste any time dropping a banger with the “Wave Runner” Yeezy Boost 700. Its retro-like design further established that the “dad shoe” trend is a no joke and that it’s going to be around for a long time.

Mesh makes up most of the upper, and is reinforced with leather and suede overlays for a plush and lightweight ride; just the way dads like their trainers. Subtle three stripes adorn the sides, where they’re also usually made with reflective materials that stand out in proper lighting.

The foam midsole houses the thick full-length Boost that provides maximum comfort and impact protection. The shape of the midsole goes along well with the design of the body.

Herringbone traction pattern completes the outsole where there are open sections that show the Boost foam.

Although the “dad shoe” trend became a thing of the past, the Yeezy 700 sure didn’t; as adidas and Kanye West released three more versions of the shoe in the following years.

First is the Yeezy Boost 700 V2, which used the same sole unit as the first one. Most of the rework appears on the upper. Unnecessary overlays were removed and replaced with slimmer reflective materials atop the breathable mesh base.

Gone is the three stripes detailing on the sides as the Yeezy Boost 700 V2 sports a more streamlined look.

In 2019, the Yeezy Boost 700 MNVN and Yeezy 700 V3 arrived.

The Yeezy Boost 700 MNVN reuses the same tooling as the two previous models. This time showcasing a synthetic upper material with a large 700 label on the sides.

As for the Yeezy 700 V3, adidas introduced a whole new silhouette that got rid of Boost. The Primeknit upper is reinforced with a TPU exoskeleton for a lightweight yet supportive ride. Replacing the usual encased Boost foam is a standard EVA foam midsole for decent cushioning.

The Yeezy Boost 700 line showed how the “dad shoe” sneaker progressed from the old-school chunky design to evolving into a lightweight and minimalist lifestyle shoe.
