JJJJound and New Balance return to one of their most recognisable looks with the upcoming 990v4 “Mushroom.” The Montreal studio has built a reputation on quiet colour choices and precise execution, and this pair sits firmly in that lane. It follows earlier “Mushroom” releases on the 993 and 991v1, while also nodding to the studio’s first-ever New Balance project, the highly prized 990v3 from 2018.

The 990v4 arrives dressed in layered shades of brown suede and mesh. Dusty brown panels wrap the toe, quarters and heel, while darker brown perforated overlays add depth through the midfoot. Chocolate-toned mesh fills the base, bringing contrast without breaking the muted theme. Cream laces and a two-tone white and cream midsole soften the look, while small silver hits appear on the heel stabiliser and rear tab. A black “N” logo cuts through the sidewall for a sharp finish.
For those who aren’t familiar with the 990 line, compared to the older 990v3, the v4 carries a slightly slimmer profile with refined branding and a mesh tongue in place of the earlier synthetic finish. Underfoot, the familiar ENCAP midsole setup delivers the balance of support and comfort the 990 line is known for.
The JJJJound x New Balance 990v4 “Mushroom” goes live on 12th December at 9:00AM. Set a reminder, clear the cart, and get ready to hit checkout the second they load – this one’s pretty special.
