Set for a June 2022 re-launch, the PUMA Slipstream takes the classic court style to new territories, bringing the old into the hands of a new generation of Puma fans. Back initially in a wide array of colourways with Mids and Hi Top silhouettes to follow. Let’s check out the rest of the details about the release; we’ll also take a detailed look at the first few pairs releasing on the 9th June.

A Short History Of The Puma Slipstream

The PUMA Slipstream originally released in 1987 as a basketball shoe. As a follow-up to the PUMA SKY LX, became a worthy successor due to its popular aesthetic and performance on the court. A popular shoe in the late 80’s, flaunting the much-needed stability, cushioning, and support as a Basketball shoe of the era.

The 1987 debut model features a high-cut with a padded ankle collar and signature PUMA stripe on the sides. Tailor-made for basketball, the SLIPSTREAM first graced the collegiate Basketball scene arrived in various colours to match High School Basketball teams.

In the following year, more styles of the PUMA Slipstream were made available because of its growing popularity. A lifestyle-intended model called the Slipstream Snake then arrived leaning more toward the casual sneaker fan rather than focusing on performance on the court.

Four OG models of the PUMA Slipstream came out, namely: Slipstream Lo, Slipstream Mid, Slipstream, and the Slipstream Hi, all of which are scheduled to make a return this year.

After a brief hiatus, the PUME Slipstream made a comeback in 2002, reaching popularity as a streatwear staple rather than a performance focus sports shoe. With the PUMA Slipstream‘s popularity peaking in Japanese fashion, the brand eventually launched the Made in Japan version of the shoe.

2021 saw the return of some classic PUMA Slipstream styles. But this upcoming relaunch in 2022 takes the shoe to the next level by reintroducing the model to a new generation.

A Detailed Look at the 2022 PUMA Slipstream

Launching first in June is the PUMA Slipstream silhouette. This is different from the Slipstream Lo model, but both appear in low-top construction.

Leather makes up the upper of the shoe, with suede lining on the sides and heel panel. PUMA‘s signature formstrip adorns both sides of the shoe, as well as more PUMA tags on the tongue. An etched “PUMA” typeface appears on the rear cupsole of the lateral side for more brand labelling. Plastic lace loops on the bottom and top eyestays prove to be durable and keep you locked in.

Smooth and buttery suede covers the heel panel which features the PUMA Cat logo.

A SOFTFOAM+ sock liner adds that step-in comfort and long-lasting cushioning to keep you walking without discomfort.

Accompanying the soft sockliner is the Anti-Shock System on the outsole. This works when the concentric patterns on the outsole act like suction cups and absorbs impact.

The first few releases of the 2022 PUMA Slipstream will feature White leather uppers with varying colours on other panels depending on the colourway. There will also be exclusive colourways in Men’s, Women’s, and Kids’ size runs. Expect more colourways of the PUMA Slipstream to roll out for the rest of 2022.
