Air Max BW

The success of the Air Max 90 seemed to shadow any other sneaker after it. But that was not the case for Nike when the Nike Air Max BW first launched. This classic Air Max model is now a staple lifestyle shoe, especially in the UK!

Air Max did not only change the future of Nike, it changed fashion forever. The mix of sports performance and lifestyle aesthetics made the Air Max line popular. Thanks to the Air Max 1 and Air Max 90, these icons remain present in every footwear shop. But there’s another underrated shoe that made waves in the 90s.

The Nike Air Max BW originally launched in 1991 as the follow-up to the Air Max 90. BW stands for “Big Window” a reference to the visible Air Max unit in the heel.

Looking for an upgrade, Nike did not only enlarge the Swoosh, but also gave the Air Max BW a bigger window. However, take note that the AM90 and BW feature the same Air unit, the latter only has a bigger cored-out section on the heel.

The Tinker Hatfield design became a popular footwear staple in the UK as the United States preferred the AM90.

In 2021, the Air Max BW celebrated its 30th anniversary. Nike released some OG colourways such as the iconic Persian Violet and also introduce fresh new styles.

The City Pack collection also saw colourful renditions of the Air Max Big Window, all pairs sold out almost instantly.

While we don’t always see the shoe every now and then, its anniversary event was unforgettable. We really hope Nike releases more pairs regularly!

The brand’s Air Max line continues to break records and reach milestones only a few shoes accomplished. And the BW is part of that!
